We now are entering the second half of the book of Jeremiah. At the conclusion of the first half of the book, Babylon was surrounding the walls of Jerusalem, & Judah’s end had come; GOD’s threatened judgment was served. Chapters 22 through 25 record how that Jeremiah was sent in those last days to deliver a message to Judah’s final king (Zedekiah) before Jerusalem was destroyed by Babylon & the last wave of Jewish hostages was taken. That message recounted before the king the many warnings which Jeremiah had spoken to the nation over the many years of his public ministry. So, chapter 26 begins with a flashback to the occasion when GOD sent Jeremiah to preach to the people in the temple itself. You can go back & read the extended record of the sermon in chapter 7, but here we are given the date, a summary of the message, & the majority of attention to the people’s response to GOD’s message. Like I stated earlier, that is the intention of this flashback.
