Bible Passage: Matthew 26:30 -50

We’ve discussed some of the things that Peter & the other disciples did wrong which set them up for failure. Now, let’s consider some of the things they did right which led to their recovery & restoration. First, after Peter’s failure we read these words:

Mat 26:75  And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

Though he had boasted that he would never forsake the Lord, he did just that. In a great moment of failure, Peter publicly denied the One he loved. After the cock crew, Peter remembered the word of Jesus, & his heart filled with remorse. Luke adds that Jesus looked at Peter (Lk.22:61). That stare & the remembrance of Jesus’ words broke him, & he left the courtyard & wept bitterly. His tears were tears of true repentance for having forsaken & denied the Lord.
