Bible Passage: John 21:15-17

Peter stood out among the other disciples. He was the leader of the bunch, a take-charge guy, who was always out-front. Peter was never lost in a crowd; he towered above the others in personality & confidence. If any disciple looked like they would be standing after any sort of confrontation, all would have cast their vote unanimously that it would be Peter. However, on the night of Jesus’ arrest, the great disciple would spiritually collapse like a tall building which implodes. The failure in Peter’s life is a warning to every believer, that we all should take heed to ourselves because we are all in danger of failing as Peter did. No one is immune to the possibility of a spiritual downfall. You say, “Preacher, there’s no way possible that’d I could fall! I’m loyal to the Lord Jesus.” Dear friend, Peter thought & said the same thing. Yet, he would learn what Paul would later write:

1Co 10:12  Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed (pay attention to) lest he fall.

Tonight, I want to trace the rise, the fall, & the restoration of Peter. And I want to show you some of the steps which led to his collapse.
