The Book of Judges records the history of Israel from the death of Joshua, the successor of Moses as leader of the Hebrew people, to shortly before the beginning of the monarchy under Saul, Israel’s first king. It stands in stark contrast to the Book of Joshua. In Joshua, an obedient & faithful people, under the leadership of a godly man, conquered the enemies of the land through trust in the power of GOD. In Judges, however, a disobedient & idolatrous people suffer defeat time & again because of their rebellion against GOD.
This morning we are going to learn about the fourth judge – her name is Deborah. Now the name Deborah means “Bee”, & in many respects, Deborah lived up to her name.
